Historical Studies

The Manuherikia Catchment has been extensively studied over the last 150 year plus. Numerous reports have been written. These historical reports provide:
  1. Insight into why certain infrastructure decisions were made, and what other options were considered at the time;
  2. A record of dam material and construction methods;
  3. Challenges with the existing infrastructure and ideas for improvement;
  4. Numerous ideas on new development options; and
  5. Hydrological data extending back over 100 years;
This historical information is very important for the current study. These reports contain a multi-generation wealth of knowledge. Putting the current study in a historical context should also help the community to make development decisions that may well affect the region’s water resources for the next 100 years.
